Get Special education degree: Most students get a special education degree in the area that will help them work with children with disabilities. Therefore, special education degrees in education, English, Psychology, Sociology, or Child Development will all adequately prepare you for your career. Depending on the school you attend, you may also be able to do a special education degree.

Volunteer: Volunteering at schools in your area while you are going to special education school will help you gain experience working with children with disabilities. It will also look great on your resume when applying for jobs.

Get certified: A major part of your special education school and development is getting certification. You are required to get the CBEST and CSET certification if you want to teach in the public school system. These are not always required if you want to work in private schools once you get your special education degree.

Do an internship: Internships are one of the most important special education courses that you can take while going to special education school. Internship special education courses will give you the hands on experience and allow you to figure out areas where you would like to specialize as a special education teacher.
