The term human service worker refers to a variety of professions such as case workers, program coordinators, counselors or advocates. It is the basis of any job that focuses on helping others. By definition, a human services workers profession is one that promotes improved delivery systems of service by addressing the quality of direct services and seeks to improve accessibility, accountability and coordination among professionals and agencies.

Human service degrees have become increasing specialized in recent years and many companies also require a certain level of education as a requirement for employment. The level of degree required to fulfill the requirements of a specific job will vary according to the job and even the country you reside in. A student looking to pursue a career in human services with a specific job or specialty in mind should do the necessary research to ensure they choose the right human services school.

Generally, a person who wants to work as or as a job coach will be required to have a Bachelor's degree which may include basic licensing depending on where you practise. A master’s degree will be required of individuals hoping to go into private practice or who intend to work for some government or social service agencies and an individual interested in teaching at a university or college will be required to obtain a PhD.In terms of social work most countries require at least a Bachelor’s degree in social work.

According to international statistics, job opportunities available with a degree in human services are projected to increase through 2018. This makes the human services degree an excellent choice in terms of job prospects. The variety of job opportunities available with a human services degree vary from jobs in the private sector as well as jobs in federal, state or local governments.
